Challenges

10,000 tons of building material had to be conveyed to the tunnel boring machine as it advanced
Ensuring the homogeneity of the building material mix — despite the long transport distance through the tunnel and the vibrations of the supply train
Very limited space on the tunnel boring machine

Approach

Material storage via the installation of a silo
Test runs in simulation mode to verify material homogeneity
Custom-designed, project-specific redesign of pressure vessels for transporting and transferring the construction mixture
Redesign of a space-saving, highly compact buffer tank for confined spaces

Products supplied

Sulfate-resistant backfill mortar, grain size 0–4 mm

Techniques used

Three 2 m³ pressure vessels (as transport and recirculation containers)
Storage tank on the tunnel boring machine
100 m³ storage silo
